I have slowly come to the conclusion that having players take up space in ships is completely retarded. Way back in the day in All Gundamu players didn't take up space in ships just for ease of updating, and I'm pretty sure it was me who made them take up space in ships. However, I no longer think that they should, and I think if I made a Mk 6. then they would not do so. I shall explain why.
#1 - Just because a player is listed in the RPG as being on a ship or a fleet, his mobile suit does not need to be physically on the ship. In the case of say, a Dobday, realistically an infinite number of mobile suits and tanks should be able to just walk along with the thing. In fact, the Dobdays hangar compliment likely does the same thing, it does not ride along the inside of the Dobday. How would Dopps launch off a Dobday?
#2 - Doing this would make fleet records keeping unimaginably, infinitely easier. I really can't describe how much easier it would be.
#3 - This has the effect of making players and mobile suit teams more powerful, both in Space and on Earth. The number of PCs on a fleet not only means that many high level fighters, it also means that many extra hangar spots on the fleet. I think this would push people more towards spreading their teams out and maybe having a PC or two with an individual ship in several seperate areas, rather than bunching them all together. It would also push people more towards buying MS teams themselves, rather than just giving all their RP to their respective officer every Monday for him to buy more ships.
#4 - This would allow us to not have the Zeon MA and EF MS rules altogether. You wouldn't have to assume that Salamis have extra MS riding them, because that is effectively what the Federal PCs are doing.
The downside to this idea is that, under the current rules, it is really a bigger buff for Zeon than Federation, since if you took away the MA and MS rules, the Federation rule is slightly better. There could be ways around this however, such as letting every Salamis carry 4 Balls or something silly like that.
Discuss!
