Well our New York Operation was successful: two PC kills, two Land battleship kills, and a lot of high level NPC Zeon MS killed. None of us died and most of our NPC suits survived.
Orange Base will be joining the 87th until we break out of North America into friendly territory. This will give Jojo’s Leadership Spec to everyone in the fleet, yay! The Combined 87th will be moving out today to North America.
I’m having most everyone buy MS for their teams.
I think it’s appropriate that I make a comment about the Side Participation issue. These ‘orders’ are only a suggestion so that we are all operating on a similar page. If you have something else you’d like to do, please, feel free to do so. As much as I would like for people to be more independent and do their own thing that is not always feasible for several reasons:
1) Many of you are not very active on the Side Forums or on the chat. Jojo and I cannot read minds so if you don’t tell us what you would like to do we won’t be able to figure it out. We are both very accommodating but we need good communication to make this happen.
2) Some of you do not always send in actions. This game is very strategic, every update counts. If you do not make every update, you will not be successful in this game. I have a pretty good idea by now who I can count on to be active and who is somewhat questionable. We are all busy people and it is understandable that not everyone will be able to make every update. One of the benefits of staying with a fleet is that you do not necessarily have to make every update. Secondly, the types of combat your character engages in will generally be more meaningful then what often happens if you are not very active and try to do your own thing which typically results in your character idling in some territory because they didn’t send in a movement action and they then get shitstomped by a Zeon fleet that is passing through the area. Being shitstomped is not very fun. Sitting with a fleet may not seem that fun either, but at least you will be in more ‘fair’ fights. In summary, if you want to be independent you HAVE to be active.
3) When the Zeon strategy is CLUSTERFUCK it’s hard to respond with anything but CLUSTERFUCK. When all the Zeon PC’s are in one place it takes more than NPC forces to stop them. This New York Operation interrupted our Hughendon assault, which we are now trying to get back on track, but it was fairly successful. We killed a couple Zeon ships, two PC’s, and a lot of high lvl MS with minimal losses. If we had not attacked the Zeeks, we would be in a lot worse of a situation than we are now. We had to make a defensive play, may not seem as fun as running around taking down Zeek bases but it was necessary. I’ve also heard some complaints that clustefuck events are not fun to read/write because of the lack of time spent on each PC. I agree with this wholeheartedly, but that is the nature of the beast. A large event like New York would have taken a week to write a really detailed Odessa-quality event. The problem is we operate on a timetable for updates and do not have the luxury of waiting an entire week to make sure an event is as good as it could/should be. Furthermore, our writers are human too. They are the talented people who keep this game running and devote a lot of time to something that a lot of people enjoy for free. It is not realistic to expect our writers and Ket to stay up all night so that every event/battle is of superb quality. It just can’t happen no matter how much we wish it could.
4) There is just not a lot a single MS team can do at this point in the game. This is also part of the nature of the game. At the beginning, everyone has low VP and little money so there aren’t a lot of PC ships/fleets running around. There are also a lot more low level targets like fortifications and mines that make easy targets. As the game progresses, these easy targets get destroyed and only the more difficult ones remain. This isn’t an All-Gundam type game where a single super-powerful MS like a Wing Zero can take down an entire base by itself. The only thing a single MS Team or group can really do at this point is scout enemy bases, hit enemy patrols, or attack the odd enemy PC. This saddens me too, but it is what it is. These things certainly have value, they just may not be as exciting as large scale events depending on the individual.
So I’m sure I’ve lost everyone’s interest with that block of text but what I really want to get across is communication is key. If you want to see something happen you have to let us know.
And here are the suggestions:
