Technical and Historical Data
In order to facilitate travel in space, both military and civilian organizations make use of a large number of basic space ships. The smallest of these are little more than rafts with thrusters attached to them, and are known as Subflights.

Subflight units are not designed for long range travel, rather for simple treks from one space colony to another, or in extreme circumstances travel between Earth Orbit and the Moon or Side 3. They typically have two thruster assemblies and can move quite fast, but are extremely cramped inside, with only a single crewmen and a very small living area directly behind the cockpit. Cargo is strapped to or magnetically sealed to the hull, and most models are fairly flat in order to give the maximum amount of cargo space.

Both the Federation and Zeon use subflight systems for deep space recon, with large fleets typically carrying a handful for scouting purposes. A single mobile suit can 'ride' a subflight system into battle, using it as a launching platform and to conserve fuel. These systems have the effect of greatly increasing the operational range in which a mobile suit can deploy away from its carrier ship. In large fleet battles they are also sometimes used to ferry infantry to enemy ships for boarding operations. Military model subflights are typically somewhat better armored than commercial ones, but rarely carry weaponry unless it was installed as a custom job.
