Technical and Historical Data
One theater in which Federation mobile suits were never quite able to keep up with Zeon designs was in the waves. While the GM Diver was not a failure on the same magnitude as the deathly slow Zaku Marine, it was not a real match for Zeons Gogg, Acquy, and later Hygogg designs. After several failed designs were left to rot in the Amazon river, the EFGF finally came up with the GM Aqua.

While most amphibous mobile suits are intended to fight at sea only temporarily before assaulting a shoreline, the GM Aqua differed by being designed purely as an underwater combat unit. The lack of unnecessary assault use shields and weaponry hardpoints gave it the ability to mount a host of torpedos both for attacking ships and enemy aquatic mobile suits. EF beam sabers were redesigned as beam picks, more suitable for hit and run aquatic combat.

The GM Aqua can still mount the Divers old waterproofed machinegun, but it is intended to not need it. Instead it can arm a specialized rocket launcher carrying two larger warheads and 10 smaller ones, for use in bombarding shoreline bases after the waves are not secure. For more serious ocean engagements the Aqua can also arm the old microtorpedo launcher, allowing it to fire torpedos from both vertical and horizontal angles. Finally, arm racks can mount underwater-use Scissor Anchors, used for grappling fast moving Hygoggs before delivering a torpedo strike.

GM Aquas quickly became the very best aquatic fighter during the war, seconded only by the infamous Zeon Grabro. They would be used as the primary shoreline defense unit by the Earth Federation for the next ten years.
