Technical and Historical Data
The GM Kai was a late war GM variant, an attempt to create a high performance GM model that still boasted low production costs, designed around the same time as the GM II.

The result was something of a red herring. The GM Kai had a much better thruster assembly than the GM II, comparable with the GM Command and later GM Custom models. However, it retained the original GMs reactor, and was still forced to use the lower output Beam Spray Gun. To compensate for this, most GM Kais were given the Gundam issue 360mm Hyper Bazooka for felling armored targets.

The GM Kai was moderately successful at fitting its intended niche. However, massed post-war production went to the GM II, the EF brass more impressed with beam rifles than fast, maneuverable units. Still, many GM Kai's remained in service after the war, and better pilots tended to prefer them over the massed produced model.
