Designed to be a very versatile machine, the Hazel was a powerful mobile weapon, though it did not boast as many new era technologies as the GP Series. Equipped with magnetic coating, a panoramic cockpit and "old fashioned" Luna Titanium armor, it was still a step ahead of most other 0083 era designs. It mounted traditional Gundam weaponry, plus a pair of multipurpose launchers on its shoulders, which could be outfitted to fire grenades, missiles or larger rockets. What set the Hazel apart was the design of its shield. Trying to spruce up old metal plank shield designs, the Earth Federation added additional verniers and fuel cells to the Hazels shield. These counterbalanced the added weight of the shield itself, allowing Hazel to arm two shields as well as two beam rifles simultaneously, with no decrease in performance. In October UC 0083, the Hazel had just been shipped to Fifth Luna for field testing. |
