While Zeonic was hard at work on the Gelgoog design, Zimmads penultimate mobile suit took a somewhat different design direction. The Kampfer has lighter armor than most late-war Duchy units, but is considerably faster, matching the speedy Gelgoog Jeager in space and completely unmatched for speed on land. It stocks a host of Dom-style jet engines in its legs, as well as extremely powerful rocket thrusters all over its body. The Kampfer has a comparatively small reactor to other high performance units, but can still power a pair of beam sabers for close range combat. It also arms Federation style head vulcans and can carry as many as four bazookas into the field simultaneously. This policy of "lots of weapons, little ammo" is designed more to cause terror in opponents than be a particularly effective battle strategy. The Kampfer performs remarkably well, and some managed to trickle down to ace pilots from other divisions. However, they remain mainly an SS machine. |
