Technical and Historical Data Designed solely to take on the Federation's Type 61, the Magella Eins was both cheaper and faster to produce than the Magella Attack tank, and its advantage over the latter lay in a lower profile which was a crucial design factor for battling tanks. Overall, the design seems inspired by the famed Type 61 tank including the rearward location of the turret which allows for a forward engine placement that provides additional frontal protection to the crew. A stark difference between the two MBTs is the Magella Eins' single cannon as opposed to the Type 61's two. And with Zeon lagging behind the Federation in terms of metallurgical expertise, the Magella Eins is heavier than the Type 61 despite the Type 61's larger size.
