Technical and Historical Data
Though the military went almost completely mechanized during the One Year War and has remained as such since, the simple infantry unit still plays an important role on the field. From guarding high-profile targets (i.e. ships) and reconnaissance work, to patrolling and even front line duty, there isn't a battlefield out there that doesn't have some grunt in a foxhole cooking his beans.

The armament of the average twelve man Marine squad remains virtually the same since the 20th Century. Each soldier wears protective Kevlar body armor which shields them relatively well versus small-arms fire from other infantry. The bulk of the squad fields basic combat knives, pistol sidearms, grenades, and rifles. For specialized duty, key squad mates will carry bazookas, shotguns, and submachine guns.

With recent events on land and space, militaries across the Earth Sphere have put out an open call for enlistment. Many a washed-out mobile suit trainee may find themselves in the Marines as meat for the grinder.
