It's primary armaments were a pair of wire guided arms, equipped with beam rifles and sabers which would later be used on the AMX-002 Neue Ziel. In addition to these, the ProtoQubeley was armed with a new weapon, codenamed the Funnel. While the Elmeths Bits were incredibly powerful weapons able to act in extreme ranges, Zeon scientists decided that they were too easy to shoot down, and attacking from miles away was something only the very strongest Newtypes could accomplish, and only then with considerable psychological strain. Therefor, the Funnel was designed. Smaller and not containing their own reactor, Funnels could deploy at reasonable ranges and attack targets indiscriminately, but carried an e-pac similar to a beam rifle. Once their rounds were spent they would travel back to the ProtoQubeley on their own. This reduced the strain on the newtype and made the weapon about a fourth the size, but additionally made them unusable for all range attacks. While the ProtoQubeley was too small to be given an I-field, it was installed with Zeons expensive Beam Resistant armor. Zeon scientists hope to perfect the Qubeley design in the next few years, with a truly mobile suit sized newtype unit. |
