The galloping of hooves and creaking of wood rolled through the normally quiet Eco streets. At their head, Scarth Maheart - farmer, breeder, and herdsman - rode atop Muffins the Armored Pegasus. At his side, Dismas Agamemnon was saddled atop Charon the fiercesome Chocobo, a wheeled balista pulled behind them. On the other side, with a great cacophony of hooves, Airinth Argonsdotter held a bronze gladius above her head, bareback on Octavia. Trailing at the side, Katherine Lockheart rode leatherbound on Marianne the horse, a watchwoman badge pinned to her chest. And carrying up the back in standard gregarious fashion, Village Chief Ball Punion drove "My Chicken" with the ship's wheel, giant metal arms holding a giant metal sword and shield - flanked as always, by Steve the Goat in a leather jacket. The grand war party finally reached the Graveyard Ruins, stripped of all things next to the stone fortress - Dragonshroom's Haunted Library. There were no more human skeletons around, but a former dragon welp was resting atop the haunted library. The skeleton wyvern awakened at the sound of activity, and opened its skeletal wings wide. It took to the sky, first flapping above the war party, then turning and - with a glow of a ruby in its mouth - unleashed a pillar of fire - striking My Chicken directly. The vehicle lifted the great metal shield to cover itself, but the fire curved around and scorched the deck. The wicks to the cannons were immolated, firing their cannonballs too early. Dismas jumped down from the choboco, loadedand fired a balista, striking the skeleton wyvern's wing. Katherine Lockheart charged forward to the Haunted Library. Another column of fire scorched the ground below the horses - save for Muffins, who took to the sky. Gripping a rapier, Scarth charged the wyvern. The pegasus and knight moved forward at a great speed, as if to spear through the wyvern - until an arrow sailed through the air and struck his neck. The great force both distracted and maimed him, and the wyvern took the chance to knock Scarth from his horse - falling to the ground with a harsh thump. Katherine Lockheart retrieved the rapier and placed it into her sheath. She strung her bow again to finish Scarth off - but was tackled. Lizzie the Giant Komodo Dragon was upon her, and it looked like her end. Instead, skeletal claws gripped around the beast, lifted it into the air, and dropped it onto a certain grappler ship rollyboat. "My Chicken" held Lizzie in her arms, a concerned Ball Punion at the bridge. Steve the Goat furrowed a goaty brow at the rogue, and Katherine went back into the Haunted Library - away from the bullets of the goat gun. But the party was not done. Airinth Argonsdotter charged the skeleton wyvern with her bronze gladius atop horseback, and Dismas fired successive balista bows. Seeing it would not be enough, he re-mounted Charon and dislodged the balista. Charging forward with a glowing green emerald, taken from the head of Terra the Giant Wolf, he met Airinth at her side - and the two went forward. They slashed and battled the wyvern, each strike of the emerald cracking bones and segmenting the beast. Airinth's bronze gladius sliced at smaller bones, causing the wyvern great pain. Then, the wyvern whipped Airinth from her mount - bringing her to the ground, and raised its hind legs in front of Dismas Agamemon. Dismas dismounted and checked his ally - but Airinth was not conscious. Airinth's innkeeping skeleton ran forward, dragging away his master and her equipment. The dragon roared, opening its mouth, and struck Dismas with a column of fire, encasing him completely in the flames. The fires let up finally, revealing a cocoon of wolf fur. In the strong giant wolf pelt, torn from Terra the Giant Wolf, Dismas had escaped the flames. Charon charged the wyvern, and Dismas bounced off her back - striking off its skull with a wallop of the terra emerald. The headless skeleton wyvern panicked, and with a flurry of cannon explosions, the torso started to come apart. Ball Punion loaded the cannons again, extra wicks in hand, and hit the wyvern with another barrage. Scarth Maheart had remounted, and Muffins the Armored Pegasus trampled at the wyvern's tail, breaking it off. Dismas charged again, wanting to knock out the jewel in its neck. He pulled out the jewel, and held it in his hands, a red glow complementing the green. Alas, an arrow struck the jewel, and it went flying from his hands. Katherine Lockheart caught the Wyvern Ruby, and it unleashed a wall of fire between her and the chief's party. She wasn't able to protect the wyvern, but its soul seemed more than grateful. The last skeleton in Eco was wiped out! Outcome: Village Chief's party is triumphant. Village Chief Ball Punion: -20 HP, +60 SP, Gains Winged Skeleton Armor (Lv3 Craft, Armor) Dismas Agamemnon: +30 SP, Gains Wyvern-Skull Helmet (Lv2 Craft, Armor) Scarth Maheart: -30 HP, +30 SP, Gains Wyvern-Bone Sword (Lv2 Craft, Melee), Loses Rapier (Lv1 Craft, Melee) Airinth Argonsdotter: -10 HP, +10 SP, Gains Wyvern-Bone Shield (Lv2 Craft, Melee) Town Watchwoman Katherine Lockheart: -20 HP, +10 SP, Gains Wyvern Ruby (Lvl3 Craft, Ranged), Rapier (Lv1 Craft, Melee) Dragonshroom's Haunted Library: Liberated |
