This page lists statistics and brief histories for the many NPCs of the world of Naruto. Interacting with squad leaders and trainers should be decently common, so it's important to know who they are and what they can do. These histories will be brief, however, just to give you an idea of the character, not to know everything about them.
Note: To save space, it is assumed that every ninja here knows the following skills - Bunshin, Henge, Kawarimi, Simple Weapon Tricks, Advanced Weapon Tricks, Dispel, and Advanced Chakra Control.
Umuino Iruka

Umino Iruka is an instructor at the Konoha's hidden village's ninja academy. He is a traditional teacher of the Chuunin level and is a kind individual, although through his instruction many aspiring ninjas have learned the basics of their education.

A talented young ninja, Gekkou Hayate is 23 and known for his mastery of Konoha's Dance of the Crescent Moon. He is a Tokubetsu Jounin (specialist Jounin) which is not heavily advertised, although it's a rank possibly given for his talent with a katana. He often appears to be in poor health and suffers from a chronic cough and bags under his eyes.

Hatake Kakashi

One of the more famous Konoha Jounin, Kakashi has a laid back and cool exterior that rarely is shed even in the most difficult of battles. Kakashi is chronically tardy for even important events, and is one of the few, if only, individuals to possess the Sharingan other than the Uchiha clan. Kakashi attained Chuunin rank at the age of six and was promoted to Jounin at only 13. Despite this knowledge of Konoha's famous "Copy Ninja," the appearance of his masked face is still a hot issue of debate. His favorite hobby is probably reading the adult novels written by Jiraiya under a pseudonym which include "Make-Out Paradise."

Sporting thick eyebrows and a very unusual personality, Maito Gai is a Jounin and self-appointed lifetime rival of Hatake Kakashi (with a current claimed record of 50 wins and 49 losses). Exuberant and overdramatic, Maito Gai believes strongly in the power of youth, often referring to it as the "springtime of life." He refers to himself as "Konoha's Sublime Green Beast of Prey" and is known to be a Taijutsu master.

Mitarashi Anko

A Tokubetsu Jounin level ninja, Anko is a former student of Orochimaru. It has been revealed that in her past she had recieved Orochimaru's cursed seal, but for an unknown reason Orochimaru's connection to her was severed and the seal has disappeared. Anko knows several techniques that are difficult to obtain without becoming a missing-nin (being passed down from Orochimaru himself), but she has one of the strongest resolves when it comes to hunting down and killing Orochimaru.

Like Gekkou Hayate, Morino Ibiki is a Tokubetsu Jounin whose specialty is interrogation and torture. Described by some of his peers as a sadist, Ibiki can easily make people experience mental suffering brought on by his interrogation skills without even exerting any physical torture. He has a complete knowledge of human psychology and bears burn marks, punctures, and long slash marks all over his body, marking his own painful torture.

A member of the Inuzuka family, Rin is one of the few Jounin level medical ninjas in all of Konoha. It is a practice of Konoha to have one medical ninja in each team, although this frequently does not happen, and many medical ninja are so devoted to helping others that they find it difficult to advance themselves. Rins physical combat ability with her clan techniques and her ninja dog have helped her improve, and now she is quite ready to help a Genin team advance. In her youth, she and Kakashi were in the same Genin team, and she is one of the few people that knows a good deal about his past.

Uchiha Elders

The Uchiha family has long been a part of Konoha's past. Actually having their own section of the Hidden Village, the Uchiha Elders are usually known for their use of the Sharingan eye. This eye is theorized to be descended from the Hyuuga family's Byakugan, but the mastery of the sharingan is second in the Uchiha's list of prideful techniques next to their mastery of Katon (fire) abilities. It is often said that when a Uchiha youth masters the Goukyaku technique they are recognized as an adult.

The Hyuuga of Konoha are referred as its most noble family. This is exemplified by the graceful yet deadly style of fighting that they employ known as Jyuken. This fighting style is unique to this family due to their mastery of Byakugan, which allows them to actually see the tenketsu points of an opponent. Called the "gentle fist" technique, it strikes the tenketsu points of the opponent and attempts to seal them, paralyzing the opponent's body. The Hyuuga clan is separated into a Head and Branch family, and while their fates are intertwined, the Branch family has been subjugated into the role of near-servants in recent history.

A ninja who has achieved the name of Kage, Sandaime is recognized as the strongest ninja of Konoha's Hidden Village. Sandaime actually means "Third" as his true first name is Sarutobi. He is a genius and possesses the nickname "The Professor." His knowledge of jutsu is large and impressive and includes many forbidden techniques. Most likely his physical skills have begun to decline in his old age, but before his current state he taught the three legandary Sannin: Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade. He maintains a personal friendship as it would seem with Enma, God of Monkeys, who protests not even the slightest bit when asked for any degree of favor.

Jiraiya

Jiraiya is the former student of Sandaime Hokage and former partner of Orochimaru and Tsunade. One of the three legendary ninjas, Jiraiya is personally known as the Gama Sennin (Frog Hermit) for his habit of being accompanied by a large, summoned frog. He is the famous writer of the "Make-Out Paradise" books and often enjoys using his special jutsu to prevent women from detecting him while he "researches." He is the former sensei of the Yondaime (Fourth) Hokage and two other unknown Genin. Along with Tsunade, he he probably one of the only ninjas in existence that Orochimaru does not feel confident fighting one on one.

The grand daughter of Shodai Hokage (First Hokage), Tsunade is a medic ninja as well as a "slug tamer" and possesses freakish levels of strength. Her fellow students in the past consisted of Orochimaru and Jiraiya. Although being over fifty years old, a constant jutsu allows her to maintain a busty, beautiful appearance of a 20-something female. She has lost those closest to her and subsequently has gone into a life of traveling to avoid debt and pursue new gambling ventures. For no reason other than her bad luck, Tsunade is known in gambling circles as "the legendary sucker." Although a medical ninja, Tsunade has developed a fear of blood. Like the other two Legendary Sannin, Tsunade has developed her summoning skill to the pinnacle, allowing her to summon the Slug God(dess) Katsuyu.

The third member of the Legendary Sannin, Orochimaru is technically a Jounin level ninja but obviously far beyond the average one. Orochimaru has chosen to leave Konoha and become a missing-nin due to Sandaime Hokage choosing Jiraiya's pupil over Orochimaru for the next Hokage. Many of his jutsu, forbidden and not, relate to snakes, and his goals include many sinister plots, but it is known that he desires to learn every jutsu in existence. He has great mastery over not only combat jutsu but also seals and summoning. His greatest summon is the Snake God Manda, a large purple serpent.

Chiiyo

Affectionately called Chiyo-baa-sama by the Hidden Sand villagers, she and her brother Ebizou are highly revered and known as the "Go-Kyodai" (siblings). She is a poison expert and used her skills during the third ninja war, only to be countered numerous times by Tsunade's medical expertise, leading to a personal grudge. Chiiyo personally uses ten puppets created by the first puppet technique user Monzaemon and has mastery over sealing and puppet techniques. Currently she is spending a year in Konoha as part of their becoming allies after the war, helping to rebuild and teaching students a thing or two.
