Map |
The above is a simple map of the lands of Ourissa. While the average cartographer has not located and placed every ruin, abandoned city, dungeon or dragons lair on his map, this should give an adventurer a simple idea of where they are going and how to get there. Movement across the map is done through the squad making move actions as their action for the day. While in depth descriptions of the various parts of the map are found in the lore section, below are the restrictions and rules on movement across Ourissa in the game.
The map is divided into 43 Territories with visible borders. Further Locations, namely cities and towns, reside within these Territories. The small dashes connecting Territories note borders that a squad may travel across. If two territories border at a corner and there is no dash connecting them, travel across the corner is not allowed. Further, Territory 38 through 43 are ocean locations, and can only be traversed by boat, or by special use of water magic. Note that Territory 32, because of its proximity to the port of Pirae, is traversable normally, it being assumed that it is relatively easy to find a ferry travelling to those islands. There are three types of dashes that connect territories. Single dashes, double dashes, and crossed dashes. Each indicates a different requirement as far as movement is concerned. Where there is a single dash, it takes a single movement action and one day to move from one location to the other. For example, a Squad moving from Territory 9 to Territory 19 on Monday would arrive in Territory 19 at the end of Mondays update and be able to make an action in Territory 19 on Tuesday. Double dashes denote that, while travel is possible, the area is either especially dangerous, especially hard to cross, or both. These areas have special Border Locations, that must be crossed before a squad fully enters the new Territory, this indicating the extra time that must be spent in travel. For example, a Squad moving from Territory 9 to Territory 10 on Monday would arrive in the 9-10 Border Location at the end of Mondays update, and then arrive at Territory 10 at the end of Tuesdays update. Border Locations count as just as much as a location as anything else on the map, and a squad can stop at a border and make their normal dose of quests and actions. Crossed dashes denote that, while travel is still possible, it is so difficult and so dangerous that it cannot be undergone without crossing some specific pass or fjord that will almost assuredly result in attack by wild monsters. Crossing such a border actually takes place as an event, and the amount of time that passes before the new Territory is reached may be quite long, or full of peril. Finally, the cities and towns on the map exist as Locations within Territories. These places are Ayotya, the West, North and East Ayotyan Border Forts, Varans, Pirae, Harakka and Tanja. It takes a movement action to move from within these Locations to the countryside of the Territory they are in, and vice versa. The exception to this is it is possible to move directly from one Location inside a Territory to another Location inside the same Territory. For an example of both instances, a squad in Territory 31 moving to Varans on Monday would arrive at the end of Mondays update and be able to make actions in Varans on Tuesday, and the same holds true for moving from Varans to Territory 31. However, it would take the same amount of time to move straight from Varans to Pirae. |
