Len was tired. This place he was at was anything but what he was used to, back in his home city. He wasn't sure where he was, and he had already lost track of when it was. To begin with he made sure to keep track of time, but after a few months it seemed like there just wasn't any point. He had managed to make himself some makeshift clothing, to keep himself alive, and thanks to his slight sense of survival he was capable of making a tiny, awful shack, one that even a homeless man in his home town wouldn't live in. But it was his home right now, and he had to make sure to survive, to get back to his home town, to get back to piloting *that* thing. Today was a day somewhat unlike the others. He had a tiny river close by to his shack, where he usually went to try and get some food. Fish was what kept him alive, but today was a bit different. He was feeling lucky to begin with, getting a huge load of fish. But that was a short enjoyment, as he was ambushed by something that wanted the fish he had worked so hard for. He wasn't sure what animal it was, it was something he had never seen before. But the sheer size of it made him think of something like a bear, except this thing looked madder. He wasn't ready for the strong push he got, and fell into the river. One to quickly get on his feet, he didn't waste any time fiddling around in the water, instead trying to intimidate the bear-like beast. His grunting and growling did not seem to scare off the beast, as it instead lunged at him again. He knew that he couldn't take on such a thing head-on, but he lost his footing thanks to the water. The beast took this chance and swiped at him. Len was sent flying from the sheer swipe of the beast, and he landed on one of the rocks several feet away. This was not a beast a man could possibly beat. And Len knew when he was beaten. His arm broken from the fall, and his clothes turned into little more than tattered rags, he fled the field. He was scared, and his thoughts were all over the place. What is this place? he wondered as he ran. And ran some more. He managed to get back to his humble shack and lick his wounds, but he wasn't sure how he could possibly fix his arm. Half his body covered in blood, he was still afraid. A slight shuffling could be heard, as if someone was walking nearby. Was the beast back? He got even more afraid. But as he carefully looked out of his shack he saw not a beast, but a human. A woman, even. That caused him to feel relief. He finally found another person in this awful hellhole, and he could barely keep his happiness within him. He waved his functional arm at the person, and called her out. "Heeeey!" he shouted as he was walking up to her. "Is there a town or hospital or something nearby?" When he got a closer look at the woman he noticed that she was wearing some armor unlike anything he had ever seen before, and that her hair was something out of this world, but things like that wasn't important right now. What was important was to find civilization, get some proper sleep, a decent meal and thanking this woman for walking this path today. Edited by Radune, May 27 2011, 06:17 PM.

“Aicatul, stop it!” Eknara was almost quite literally running for her life. “STOP IT!” she shouted panting. “You know I can’t run as fast as you can fly!” Eknara was hurting and she had no doubt Aicatul was too. But her daemon kept lengthening the distance between them in order to keep her running. For neither could bear prolonged separation by great distances. Aicatul, seeming to hear her latest plea, settled on a nearby tree in the woods. He looked down on his human and yearned greatly to return to her. But he was doing this for her own good. Eknara finally stopped running when the need to disappeared. She fell with her back to the trunk of a tree as she tried to catch her breath. Aicatul, having lost his will to stay apart any longer, flew to her arms and Eknara accepted him gratefully. A few tears escaped her eyes as she held him closely. Aicatul tried to soothe her. “Needed to stop sulking … to get up and actually get your blood pumping.” “I know,” Eknara interjected. Aicatul continued. “We need to accept we’re stuck on Thracs and just move on.” “I know!” Eknara cried. “I know.” She had fallen into a depression after her latest attempt to return to Aerillia had failed. It was her final chance. She had no more avenues to try. Malek and, especially, Ethan would check up on her and make sure she was at least eating, but otherwise she did not leave her room for days and merely sulked. She hadn’t even changed her clothes and was still currently in her full armour. But Aicatul, although of course suffering from the same depression as Eknara, found some strength within himself to force Eknara out of bed. He flew for short stretches and only stopped to let Eknara catch up. As soon as she had caught up to him, he broke into flight again. And he kept on doing this over and over again to keep her moving. It was only now, about a little longer than half an hour later, that he let himself return to her, having deemed that he had pushed for long enough. He nuzzled himself against his human. A few minutes later, after they had recovered from the harsh ordeal, Eknara looked up. “Where are we?” She did not recognize her surroundings. “Aicatul, where did you take us to?” Aicatul, not knowing the answer himself, stayed quiet. Eknara Orkaro bit her lip and continued moving. She was relieved that she at least had the luxury of being able to actually walk at a leisurely pace this time. If it was night, she could have used the constellations that Ethan engraved in her memories to get back. But it was in the middle of the day, and she had nothing but a cloudy sky above her. She continued walking until she heard some water running. Judging that it would help her get back to her new Khaotics home, she followed it. Soon, she had left the deep forested area that Aicatul had blindly guided them to and had reached a little opening that was the home to a small river and … a boy a few years her junior quickly walking out to her as he shouted something. Eknara eyed the state of his clothes and body as her eyes widened in fear. His clothes were tattered and he was bleeding. She stopped in her tracks, frightened, and started to slowly walk backwards as he neared her. She, for some reason, never took her eyes off him even though she was obviously scared by the sight of him. Aicatul shrieked. Edited by Anastasia, Jun 1 2011, 01:26 AM.

This just wasn't Len's day. First a bear-like beast broke his arm and stole his dinner, and now this.. But he wouldn't let that stop him! He had finally found another human, someone to give him directions or maybe even show him the way personally to the closest town. But then again. While his mind were set on getting the help of this woman, he wasn't sure about his body. He could barely even move any more, thanks to malnutrition and his injuries. He hadn't realized it yet, but the attack he got from the bear-like thing caused him a lot more than a broken arm. Of course, a hawk striking a person so hard that he falls to his back would stop most people. But he was doing all he could to get out of this hellhole, and this person was his way out. He would like to say that, at least. But he doesn't have the strength needed use his non-broken arm to get up again, so despite his attempts he is stuck on the ground. He was starting to feel doubt. Not being able to get up and getting attacked as soon as he met this woman.. it would be enough to cause most people to doubt everything. "I'm.. going to die here, huh.." he mumbled, now scared for his life. If he couldn't get up a beast could easily kill him without him being able to even resist. And he couldn't let that happen. After a few more failed attempts to get up he chose to try to get the woman to help him. "Please! I don't want to die!" he yelled, barely being able to keep himself from crying. "I'll do anything, just help me, please.." |

Eknara watched as Len fell down. He was saying something. But the meaning of the words were lost on her. Unlike with the first people she met in Thracs, she could not understand the language the boy spoke. As she continued to glance at the boy, an understanding slowly settled on her: He was no threat to her. He was a mess, yes. But the look that the boy gave her was one of sorrow. He was pleading with her. She may not have understood what he said, but the tone of his voice, the look in his eyes and the way he had fallen down and was clearly unable to get up again spoke volumes. The blood must have been his own and the way his arm moved clearly indicated that he could no longer move it. Eknara’s features softened at the sight. The tension escaped from her body as fear was quickly replaced with compassion. “He’s hurt, Aicatul.” Her daemon nodded at her. She slowly approached the boy as he lay on his back. |

Len noticed the woman slowly walking towards him, and felt relief for the first time in a very long while. He was a bit worried that he might've stumbled upon a mute, since she didn't seem to speak back at him, but at least she seemed to understand that he needs help. As the woman came close to him he got a view of her, and it immediately struck him. It might just be delusion, thanks to malnutrition, but he could've sworn he saw his mother there for a moment. Then again, he had been at the researcher's castle since he was just six years old, so he could barely even remember his mother's face. He was finally going to make it out of this hell. He was so happy he could cry. But he tried not to. Instead he tried thanking the woman for finding him. "Thank you so much." he mumbled out between his sniffles. "It's good to know that there's some nice people in this place, after all." He was so tired. Maybe sleeping for a bit would just.. work out nicely.. he thought, finally getting some rest for the first time in a while. Edited by Radune, Jun 1 2011, 08:37 PM.

Eknara eyed the boy as he closed his eyes. It bugged her that she couldn’t understand what he was saying. Aicatul flew to his side and approached Len cautiously while making sure not to move too close to touch him. “It looks like he’s passed out.” “Yeah …” She placed a wary hand on Len’s forehead. “We really need to get him some help. And quick.” Len’s forehead was not at a cool body temperature. Eknara closed her eyes and tried to concentrate on the message she’d send through the Khaotics hive mind and the one or two people she wanted to contact. “Malek, Ethan. I need your help.” She waited a few seconds before a very familiar voice spoke up louder than the other voices in the hive. The rest of the chatter in the hive sounded more like noise than intelligible words to her at that point. “Eknara, where are you?! Malek said he saw you running frantically into the woods and he --” She didn’t let the voice finish. “I’m sorry to have worried Malek and you, Ethan. But I need your help.” “What is the matter, Eknara? Have you been injured?” It was Malek this time who voiced his concern. She bit her lip, and quietly berated herself. They had been really worried about her as of late and she really hated to trouble them with her problems after all they’d done for her. But in this case someone else was at stake. “No, Malek. I’m fine, really. But there’s a boy here and he’s hurt. He’s passed out and I don’t think I can carry him all the way back.” “Please state your current location. I will send a squad out to you immediately.” Eknara had a worried face as she looked about her. She still didn’t know where she was. “I … need to figure out where I am first.” “Aicatul, can you … ?” Aicatul nodded at her before she finished her request, knowing fully well what she wanted to ask of him. He flew up into the air as far as he could before the pain of separation started to sneak up on him. It took him a minute, but he was able to pick out some land features that he was familiar with. He relayed everything to Eknara, and after they had figured out where they most likely were, Eknara used the hive mind once again to let Ethan and Malek know where she was. |

Len sprung up, his breath heavy, his mind wavering. He had been having a nightmare, about that thing that nearly killed him. But as he was starting to wake up he noticed something. He had no idea where he was. This is not the shack he had built, nor does it seem like the den of a beast.. Either way, he would have to get a look around his surroundings. As he stood up from the bed he noticed that most of his body was covered in bandages. Whoever did this might have wanted him to stay alive, or they might've wanted him to simply not die just yet. He had no plans to find out, but his idea was shot down rather quickly, when he noticed that one of his arms seemed broken, and one of his legs injured so badly he could not even stand on it. But getting used to improvising was something he had just recently, he found something he could use as a crutch. It seemed like a rod of some sorts, and it would have to do. Limping away from the bed, he approached the one exit the room had. He carefully opened the door and peeked out of it, and saw nothing. However, on the other side of the door there was a guard, one that he couldn't see. Feeling rash and full of vitality he limped out of the room, only to be stopped by the guard. However, still nervous about his situation he started acting rashly, waving the rod around as a chance of fending the guard off. This caused quite a ruckus, and there was soon other people showing up. Len got even more nervous, and started shouting at them. "Who the hell are you people? Where am I?" he yelled, full of fear and despair. For all he knew these people could be bandits, kidnappers, slavers or even worse... |

Malek was sitting just outside a nearby house, talking to a friend while playing a game similar to chess. The house that Len had been resting in was the one he shared with his twin brother, Ethan. He had also made it his responsibility to make sure the young lad would be taken good care of. So when he heard the commotion that Len had started up, he made sure to rush right over. “What seems to be the problem?” He asked the guards. He didn’t need a response, as he could see that the two guards he had appointed to guard Len were trying to calm the teen down, but Len resisted. “Release him and step away slowly.” Malek said. “He is incapable of running away very far in his condition anyways.” The guards nodded and followed Malek’s commands. As the guards stepped back, Malek approached Len slowly with his hands up to signify he meant no harm. The sight that greeted Len next was a smiling twenty-something year old man at about 1.8m tall, with curly auburn hair. He had fair skin and a rather kind face. After trying to signal to Len that he should calm down, he started making hand motions to ask Len if he was hungry or thirsty. Edited by Anastasia, Jun 10 2011, 07:35 PM.

"Who are you?" Len asked, not sure if he could get an answer. But he was still nervous, even if this person might look like a good person he might be an enemy in disguise. However, for some odd reason nobody here seemed to talk very much, maybe they were trying to keep something from him? He wasn't sure what the man meant by those gestures, but he was certain to try to find out. "What do you mean? Do you want me to drink or eat something?" he asked, getting more nervous. "And are you some sort of mute or somethi-" He was cut off. But not by any of the people around him, but rather his stomache, loudly growling, showing off it's anger and emptiness. "I.. might be a bit hungry. What's it to you?" he asked, calming down a bit. How could he stay angry when he was so hungry, after all? Of course, that doesn't mean that he would just outright trust that man. Where was that woman that helped him, though? As he looked the man over he thought things through. That woman must be a member of this tribe or something like that. And this must be some sort of backwater village in the most remote parts of Dandrel. A village populated by mutes. |

Malek smiled when he heard Len’s stomach rumble in the middle of the indiscernible words he was mouthing with a palpable mix of emotions. ‘He is a scared and cautious young man,’ Malek thought to himself. ’As he should be with the many dangers lying about our midst. In any case, he is conscious enough for introductions to be in order.’ Malek placed his right hand on top of his chest and slowly spoke his name. “Malek,” he said, before repeating himself once more and then extending his hand in an invitation for Len to introduce himself. |
