Since after retiring, she has picked up quite the mercantile attitude toward these battles, however, unless something unexpected happens, she will not back down off a mission.

Biography: Jane Sheppard was born with her entire life planned ahead. Expecting a son, her father planned to have her join the Army even before her birth. After the surprise, Jane’s father still raised her tough, teaching her everything from tracking to vehicle repair.
On one fateful day, when Jane was at home a lone with her mother, a couple robbers broke in. After resisting, her mother was shot. The robbers fled right after, leaving Jane’s mother bleeding in her arms. Ever since what happened, Jane she saw her brother and father blaming her, although it was just her blaming herself.
Being pressured to join the Army division, Jane instead joined the Earth Federation Air Force as a sign of resistance. There was also the reason that her high school sweetheart, Jack Murphy, had also joined the Air Force. It was a good distraction from past events. This was among many rebellious acts she carried out during this stage of her life. It was these acts that eventually caused the falling out between her and her brother and father. She blamed herself for not being strong enough to protect her mother, and couldn’t stand the fact that her brother and father had nothing but love for her. Among her other forms of rebellion, was her bi-curious nature.
During one of her routine assignments, her convoy came under attack in enemy territory. Jack Murphy was left behind, forcing Jane to pick between risking her team or the love of her life. She managed to save Jack’s life, but the injuries he received forced him to be put in a wheelchair for an undisclosed amount of time. There was a good chance the damage was permanent. This of course did not come without a price. All 8 of Jane’s teammates were either critically wounded or killed in action. Jane was dishonorably discharged, but not given any jail time due to political reasons.
After the incident, Jane moved to Vegas, and joined LVPD, hoping to put the combat skill she learned at the academy to some good use. She developed both a drinking and gambling problem as she blamed herself completely for Jack’s injuries as well as the deaths of her teammates. In a matter of time she put herself in irreversible debt, swallowing her sorrow and guilt with alcohol. This effected her work performance, and she was demoted from her Detective position. She left the police department and instead became a private eye, as well as doing all sorts of odd jobs in the time between.
As the war with Zeon escalated, the Earth Federation sought out experienced and combat ready pilots. As Jane had all necessary prerequisites, they accepted her back solely as a test pilot. With her stubborn attitude, it took a lot to get her to join the ground forces, including a visit from her ex-husband, Jack.
She test pilots the GM S hoping to get rid of the debt she has collected over the years, as well as hoping to be redeemed in the eyes of all those she has wronged.
Psychological Profile: Jane suffers from repeated survivor’s guilt, a symptom of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The first signs arose after the death of her mother, but certainly did not end there. The death of Jane’s mother left a huge toll on her. Ever since the incident, she saw her brother and father blaming her, although it was just her blaming herself. This is the main reason she charges in 100% to protect those around her, never leaving anyone behind. Learning from her previous mistakes, she never lets anyone help her in these type of moments. She’ll go right into enemy fire in a suicidal charge, to insure the safety of her allies, hoping for some sort of redemption or forgiveness. She continues to blame herself for the tragic incidents that occur in her life. The most recent were the deaths of Ashley Williams and Kaiden Alenko, former squad mates and pilots for the Earth Federation Ground Forces.

- Jane keeps a poster of Johnny Cash in her apartment. Whenever she moves for an extended period of time, she will keep the poster in her mobile suit.
