Newtypes Post in Questions Forum

- Again, this entire post is inconsistent regarding "newtype" versus "Newtype."

NT0- Oldtype
- First paragraph, second sentence: "... through a mixture of surgury..." to "... a mixture of surgery..."

NT1 - Newtype Sensitive
- First paragraph, first sentence: "realised" to "realized"
- First paragraph, second sentence: "occured" to "occurred"

NT4-5 - Newtype
- First paragraph, last sentence: "spotaniously" to "spontaneously"
- Third paragraph, first sentence: "The best example of this sort of newtype are probably..." to "The best examples of this sort of newtype are probably..."

NT6-7 - Skilled Newtypes
- Paragraph three, sentence two: "duelling" to "dueling"

NT8-9 - Pretty Spectacular and Amazing Newtype
- Second paragraph, first sentence: "consistantly" to "consistently"

Megaparticle is an unfortunate misspelling that’s propagated because of certain websites, such as High Frontier (from which the timeline and term in question appear to be ripped). The official spelling is “mega particle” (two words), as evidenced on Gundam Official (which is all that really matters if we're worried about correctness), the Gundam Project, Mobile Suit Gundam Technical Manuals, my copy of Schodt’s translations of the novels (which add a hyphen) and Simmons’ recent translations of old source books, located on UltimateMark.com.

Defence is, indeed, a British spelling. But considering this RPG is otherwise written in American English, at the least, it is out of place.

Whereas is a word. I saw a red line under it in MS Word and jumped the gun. In fact, the mistake is: “whearas” to “whereas”. I shall fix it in the above!

Obviously “grey” and “gray” are both acceptable. The problem is when you add “ed” to the end of the word. “Greyed” is not acceptable in Word, whereas (lol) “grayed” is. Other sources allow for “greyed”, so it’s really a judgment call.

Neither “ta” or “da” are words in American English (ta being British slang for “thank you” according to the following website). On further review, though, neither is “tada”. It is more correctly written as ta-da.

The use of a comma before “and” in a list is acceptable, but not required. “I have oranges, grapes, and pears” works as well as “I have oranges, grapes and pears.” Unless you’re referring to some other rule! Which I’m interested to learn!

It just all depends on how concerned you are with accuracy. "Mega particle" and "Kycilia" are the official translations, and have been for about ten years now. When Mobile Suit Gundam was getting attention back in '99 and '00, Sunrise sent out a memo to the various publishing houses involved with translating stuff for American consumption. They wanted to crackdown on the weird crap, like "Barony of Zion" and "Amuro Rey/Rei" and "United Nations Earth" or whatever it was they put in 0080. It served to cement the legitimate spellings of most of this stuff, at least in the company's eyes.

Of course, you've still got diehard fans of Gundam like Daffyd from High Frontier. Daffyd got into Gundam back around the time of Zeta, and I'm sure as hell not gonna fault him for sticking to his guns on the timeline.

Hopefully that's not off topic. I'm just trying to explain why you might give it some second thought, even if it's not part of the scavenger hunt.
