So everybody in the SS really wants an SS only board in Zeon forums.
From an RPing perspective this seems pretty cool, but I am wondering what you would actually DO on such a board, or if it would just sit and not be used.
Discuss.

I mentioned it earlier so we could have a place to discuss as a division to act as Gihren's military police which can't be done on a public board in my opinion. That was brought up near the beginning so the discussion of other divisions would be as we went, but it seems unneeded since none of the divisions are messing up. Main purpose of the board now I think would be made to try and differentiate the Schutzstaffel from the MAF and TAF. Our officer's ideas differ from the other officers at the moment I believe and using the SS's special operatives status isn't something I think he would want to post or discuss in public for morale issues and would rather have another way to carry discussions with his men.

I think having an SS only board would be pretty...well...lame. Yes yes I get it, you want to have your own private board to discuss in secret but then the Newtype Korps, Test Korps, and Mobile Assault Force should by all rights get their own secret board again.
From an RP stand point, all of those ideas make sense as well. You said so your self that the NTK is top secret RAWR mode. I just really don't see a point, gamewise, in the SS having their own private board beyond the fact that they want to be all cool and mysterious.
As a TAF Officer, I demand our own top secret forum if they get one. They might be the super sekrit spies, but that doesn't mean they know every last thing the normal army is planning.
Again, RP Wise this is a good idea, but RP Wise it also makes sense to make separate private boards for all of the different divisions of Zeon. There was alot of inter-familial planning, with the Zabi family having their own little secret plans, especially in regards to Kycilla and Gihren.
Gamewise, it's pointless.

I think as a division, the SS is the only one that Merits its own board, Because of their position, and the whole basis of their existence in the game as a black ops/secret service type deal. I am for it, for much the same reasons Dan has stated. If we don't get one, whatever, not gonna whine about it. I would like one, but not at the cost of people bitching about it.... ahem... I appreciate the consideration though Ket <3 *crosses fingers*

SS-only board seems fine to me. The game background would seem to support it, and it adds more depth to inter-Zeon communication. It might make planning joint operations more difficult and if the SS suddenly start messing my shit up I'm going to have some choice words to say, but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it. :p

Since I can't figure out what they'd plan except discussing which Zeon PCs to shoot in the back for being traitors, I have no problem with it.
It'd just be a circlejerk forum, but hey, SS like to wank their egos anyway.

In terms of the game, the Newtype Korps merit their own board as well (More broadly, the MAF).The NK is just as, if not more, secret then the SS is.
But eh, whatever, have fun with that lol I just don't see the point of it gamewise.

I have my reasons :-p
I want to push the bounds of the gameplay opportunities that being in the SS present, as well as expand on all of our characters, and having this side board I think will help facilitate that growth and experimentation.

Consider giving it to them, but demoting anyone who isn't posting enough in the Zeon board, the Officer's board (for those who qualify) AND the SS board.
They have to justify its existence with activity, but that doesn't mean they should withdraw from the Zeon board.

I agree completely, and fully intend to continue use of the zeon officer board as an active officer of zeon's ground forces. And shall encourage the SS to weigh in on topics that the other zeon bring up on the boards. Not trying to break off completely, just trying to get a little more freedom to operate as the SS should and as I said, explore the game play opportunities it would present. <3 you all!

What exactly are the Zeon SS, in OYW RPG's Universal Century continuity? I'm not sure they parallel the real Zeon SS seen in UC canon, since they're strictly under Gihren, and iirc Kycilia also used them in MSG. Are they supposed to be the Zeon Marines, like Cima, who run around and gas colonies?
I ask, because my perception of the SS (thus far) has been of a group of autonomous operatives who answer directly to Gihren. In other words, independent agents. Sort of the Jason Bournes or Mara Jades of Zeon. They work for Gihren, and answer to his orders, but otherwise are spread out, and light on intra-agency cooperation and communication.
RP-wise, it would seem to be in Gihren's best interest not to have them working together, since he needs eyes and ears throughout the Zeon army. He also probably wouldn't want them in direct communication, as a means of deniability.

The canon representation of SS members mostly comes out of MS Igloo, which had the two "Information Officers" aboard the Jotunheim. First the chick who wore the red uniform, and later Von Kuspen who was put in after she became emotionally compromised.
Other characters who are basically Ghirens personal flunkies or who worked on special not-so-legal projects such as the Sahalins and the Cyclops Team could be considered SS.
Whether or not they are autonomous or part of a real central leadership is more or less up to the people in the division who are RPing it. I won't stop it either way. The real 3rd reich SS definitely had a real chain of command and documented everything they did.
That said, my vision for the SS in the game is a small number of PCs who work on keeping the other three divisions together and in-line with Zeons agenda, rather than working together in SS only operations. They're supposed to be information officers who are stationed with a group of MAF/TAF or SAF and who deliver special reports to Ghiren, so he can better control a military that is normally much more divided than the command structure of the EF. This is intentionally represented through the Intimidation Specialization, which should force SS members who want the maximum bonus out of their character to split up, so there's never more than one SS player on a given ship.
But, again, if that's not what the players want to do, I'm not forcing anything on anybody. My concern for the board idea is whether or not it would actually be used, and what it would be used for. I don't really see many reasons why you would need to make a post on a special SS board instead of just on the Zeon board with an SS header tag, or in the RP board RPing a special report to Ghiren.

That all makes sense to me.
If you're concerned about creating a board that won't be used, I think there's no need to worry. Chris and Dan apparently chat quite a bit about SS-plans. So if you gave them a board, it'd be a nice way to bring that planning officially into the game.
Though if an SS member gets caught, I wonder if a rule should be made stating that they'd die before sacrificing the password ;).

SS as a group is autonomous, like the FBI is separate from the police. However we don't have high enough ranks to be truly autonomous. Low ranking officers and enlisted aren't going to be able to order around Admirals and Generals.
I doubt Gihren would want his top SS officers working together all the time, but he would encourage his subordinates to cooperate whenever it served the common good. Among junior operatives in particular cooperation would be a necessity, as we can't just commandeer an entire fleet like an Admiral SS could. Completing larger assignments would require many operatives working together just like on national cases multiple FBI agents work together.
As long as our extra effort on the SS board is recognized, and gives us chances for promotion as well as demotion I think the SS board is a good thing.

I don't think you need any special merits beyond the extra board - After all, having the board in itself is a perk you guys asked for. If it gave additional chances for promotion, that would be imbalanced; every faction would have a rightful reason to think the SS board was an overpowered privilege.
