“And I expect you to have this rat problem solved before you go home this evening, Mr Arsesotter.” a cranky old man ordered as he extinguished his candle, closing up the bank for the day. “It's Argonsdotter, sir.” Airinth Argonsdotter, a local merchant, replied. “Do I look like I care. Just put an end to these rodents. And I still expect you here all the earlier the next morn.” the man huffed as he slammed the door behind him, leaving Airinth alone. “How does one catch a rat? Hmm.” Airinth pondered to himself as he paced around the room. Stopping at a corner, he spotted a lone broom. “Hmm. It's worth a try.” Airinth shrugged and began sweeping the floor. Clearing his throat, a tune began to escape his lips. “There's magic in the air this evening, magic in the air. The world is at her best, you know, when people love and care. The promise of excitement, is one the night will keep. After all their's only one more sleep till Christmas.” Airinth began to sing as he swept the floors. The further he advanced in his song, the more he caught the sound of scurrying and faint sight of shadows zipping just out of the corner of his eye. “The world has got a smile today, the world has got a glow, there's no such thing as strangers when a stranger says hello. And everyone is family, we're having so much fun, after all there's only one more sleep till Christmas.” Now the sight of rats was clear. Inspired by his melody, they had exited their holes and begun fiddling with the trash strewn about the bank. Slowly manuevering himself next to one of the vermin, Airinth made an overzealous swing of his broom, blindsiding the rat and sending it airborne into a chamberpot. Stunned, the rat was too slow to prevent Airinth flipping the chamberpot, trapping its contents inside. The next morning, Airinth awoke to see the same old man staring him in the eyes. “Would you mind getting off my chamberpot my lad, and explain why you spent last night cleaning the office instead of catching those rodents?” the man sneered. “Oh, I caught it. It's in the chamberpot. Funny. All you need to do is sing a Christmas song, and small animals feel compelled to begin tidying up their surroundings in preparation of the holiday, regardless what time of year.” Airinth snickered, picking up the chamberpot. “If you don't mind, I'm going to take this home with me.”“Why?” the old man snapped. “I don't know.” Outcome: Airinth Argonsdotter is triumphant Airinth Argonsdotter: -10 HP, +10 SP, +1 Live Rat in a Bucket (Food, mysterious effects) |
