Ripping the Fabric:
James Daviott sighs as he watches the slow progress his ship is making in exiting the colony. Since it is the capital of the Riah Republic he shouldn’t be surprised at the slowness. But he is escorting a weapons convoy so he would think that the Riah Republic space dock controllers would want the ship out of here as fast as it could. James looks at the screen at his side checking the status of the three ships under his protecting.
"How do things look?" James asks the sensor officer. "I don’t want anything sneaking up on us. Even if we are in port we shouldn’t let our guard down."
"No, sir." replies the sensor officer. "Nothing on scope. But I doubt I would be able to detect any hostile action with all this traffic anyways."
"Just do your best."
"Aye, sir. I will try."
James nods and goes back to worrying. Ahead, he can finally see the stars and the emptiness of space. Today it doesn’t look too empty. He sits back in his chair and stares out into the distance. Something at the edge of the massive entrance to the colony catches his eye. He leans forward trying to identify the red light he spotted.
"Sir!" cries out the sensor officer as James gets a sinking feeling in his stomach. "Identified mobile suits detected!"
"I see them. Launch all mobile suits!" replies James in an angry sounding voice. "They picked a good place to attack. We can’t fire our weapons here with out worrying about hitting civilian craft."
James watches as the ship’s two launch catapults deploy and two mobile suits appear on it from inside the hanger. The Galbaldy Alpha and the Act Zaku stand ready as the launch catapult counts down quickly. As they are flung from the ship, a single mobile suit takes their place and then it is flung away. Then the two fighters are launched. With in another couple of seconds the ships compliment of Balls are deployed in guard positions around the transport ships behind the Crawfish.
James eyes widen as six mobile suits erupt into the tunnel his ship is in. "Those are Zaku II Kais."
James curses as he watches the mobile suits open fire on his mobile suits. Their shots miss and hit a nearby ship and it explodes showering both sides with fragments as well as damaging the walls of the tunnel. As James watches one of the Zakus explode as a beam blast hits it. The other five Zakus scatter as another beam blast closely misses one.
"Weapons. I want you to fire on those mobile suits but make sure you don’t hit the colony walls or any civilians." orders James as he slams a fist down on the arm rest of his chair. "We need to push them out of the colony and away from these other ships. Communications tell those civilian ships to clear a path."
"Aye, Sir!" replies the two officers.
As James watches the action between his mobile suits and that of the enemy’s he spots another Zaku II Kai explode. And then his ships weapons open fire. One suit just disappears from the waste up. The others are quickly forced back as they find themselves one on one with better pilots than they are. As they exit the mobile suits exit the tunnel, James orders the ship to follow but as he gets to the entrance two more Zaku II Kais appear and blast past his ship. He curses and looks to his screen showing him the ships behind him.
The Balls open fire on the two mobile suits immediately. Most of their rounds miss but enough hit one to destroy it. The other one opens fire on the Balls and quickly destroys three of them. Then as it begins to turn on another the Zaku explodes as a beam blast pierces it. Then ten mobile suits blast past the ships and then they are past Crawfish.
"Those where Act Zakus." states James.
"Yes sir." answers the sensor officer. "They are in Riah Republic colors."
"Sir our mobile suits are reporting that they have killed one more of the attackers but Riah Republic forces have destroyed the other two." reports the communications officer.
"They responded quickly." says James in response. "Tell them thanks for the assist. And that we will be on our way once we get our mobile suits back on board."
"They say they are glad to help."
James nods and orders the mobile suits back. And then sits back in his chair and sighs with relief.
Outcome: Convoy protected from attack.
James Daviott: 80 exp, no damage, lost 3 Balls
Guncannon Strikes Again:
Once again the Guncannon spots the Zeon convoy and runs straight at it. Once he reaches the maximum range of his shoulder cannons he stops and begin firing shells at the convoy. This time his shots get closer but they still miss. The Gallops in the convoy then turn their cannons and begin firing shells at the red mobile suit. When the dust settles the Guncannon is laying on its back missing an arm and a leg.
Outcome: Convoy is safe for another day.
