Hawaii was the ultimate concession by the Americans in exchange for peace. The Japanese Empire demanded the Islands of Hawaii in order to insure their safety via the pacific and to deter any possible American threat. Faced with either handing the Islands over or being attacked by the German Empire and the Japanese Empire, America capitulated and was rewarded with fifty years of peace.
