Portugal’s alliance with the United Kingdom would cause it undue hardships during the Great War when the German Empire forces tore through spain they turned their attentions to the nation of Portugal and all cries for aid to the United Kingdom were ignored. Lisbon met a brutal occupation, but what hurt more was being ignored by their long-time allies. This hatred ultimately lead to Lisbon’s early acceptance of the German Empire’s rule.
