The Uralsky Military District controls the major approaches from the Human Reform League’s European and Asian territories through the Ural Mountains. As a base in an climatically diverse region and squished between massive mountains, it also has a very varied environment, making it an ideal place to house an academy for mobile suit pilot training.

The district’s headquarters are based several hours east of the city of Noyabrsk, on a naturally-occurring plateau within the craggy Urals along the largest transit artery connecting North Asia and Eastern Europe. The base seems to materialize out of nothing as travelers round a sharp bend in the roadways and find themselves staring at an artificial mountain-top bristling with cannons and rocket batteries. The area is littered with junked mobile suits, burned-out husks used as targets for pilot trainees, and a maze-like, serpentine trench network radiates out into the surrounding hills as both part of the training grounds and an infuriating defensive faculty allowing Tierens to pop out of camouflaged positions behind approaching enemy columns. What appears to be peaks and crags of ridges and outcroppings are actually disguised blockhouses with machine gun and cannon emplacements, and thanks to how closely framed the district’s headquarters are by the hills, long-range sniping attacks with beam weapons are virtually impossible. Practically every structure in the base is also fitted with a missile launcher to provide aerial screening, reflecting the League’s belief that the only non-suicidal method of attacking their installation is in flying over the mountains.

Attacking the base is daunting for climatic reasons as well as those of the more mundane (read: cannon-armed) nature. The flatlands to the east and west are virtual deserts in summer due to their low altitude and lack of rainfall, while the approaches to the mountains rapidly become choked with snow and ice in winter, leading to major climatological shock in terms of stresses on hardware and personnel alike.
Present: The base has taken moderate damage and lost a number of mobile suits, due to a large-scale attack by pilots of various groups. The assault force managed to get very close to the base through unknown means, and investigation continues. No doubt useful information will be gained from the interrogation of one of the captured attackers…
