Situated far inland, near the South Pole, the Caird base is home to a ballistic missile facility originally constructed by the Earth Sphere Alliance circa forty years prior. During the Guild War period it was initially seized by the Space Revolutionary Army, and then later abandoned to the Human Reform League where it remained unused until well after the formation of the Earth Union. Caird lies on a vast stretch of open wasteland, with little more than flat ice for miles on miles in any given direction. Despite its small size, the base is well fortified with rows of snow-white beam cannon emplacements hunkered close to the ground in a star-shaped pattern around the airstrip and elevators, while missile launchers are concealed in the base’s immediate vicinity (some below the airfield itself).

The relatively small mobile suit garrison, combined with the minor overall size of the installation itself, suggests that it is really little more than a well-protected flag for the Earth Union in this lonely and remote portion of Antarctica.
