A colony drop circa UC 188 obliterated much of Peru, creating a massive inland sea that ran all the way to the foot of the Andes mountains in the east. With much of the coastal urban centers destroyed, new cities would arise in the later parts of the century on either side of the new body of water. The small town of Sechura, about 500 miles north of Lima (aka “ground zero” of the colony drop), became the leader of these post-drop cities, and later evolved into the capital of one postwar country, Estado de La Estrella Del Sur, or South Star State.

As a member of the Council of Defense and Security of the Americas, the South Star State’s principle military base forms the western point of the Central Sector Command – the installation is positioned in the Punto Sechura just south of the bay, with the rocky coastal mesa providing a keen lookout over the ocean, the city, and the desert to the east. As the highest point in the relatively flat nearby area, it is a natural location for a fortified garrison. The base is a hybrid surface/subterranean compound, with an airfield and a variety of sensor masts along with more mundane warehouses and loading docks on top of the mesa, while its hangars and key infrastructure are buried below with access arrived at via elevator. A number of these topside structures are decoys, concealing missile launchers for air defense around the complex, while the rest of the batteries are installed in rugged bunkers that dot the slopes of the mesa. In addition to the mobile suit elevators, there is also a large submarine pen excavated out of the mesa’s northern slope, allowing small ships and amphibious units access to the base’s interior via two sets of extraordinarily thick doors.
