Armory Beta is a military-type PLANT given over to large-scale manufacturing of mobile suits and other weaponry. It was one of the prime sites of wartime production during the Space War, but has down-sized significantly since the end of that conflict to meet the reduced needs of ZAFT’s successors in the National Guard.

Beta can be easily differentiated from other PLANTs by the greatly enlarged industrial blocks at the nexus of the habitation cones, allowing the assembly of large items in zero gravity. A substantial portion of the habitable areas of both hourglasses is occupied by the factory complex itself, which is a sprawling but tidy network of fabrication and construction buildings and yards chiefly clustered around the axial pillars, allowing components to be sent up to the industrial blocks for final fitting and testing. Perhaps most ingeniously, however, is the purpose-built nature of the factory complexes themselves. The highly efficient equipment used by PLANT for construction of its habitats also allows for expedient manufacturing of all sorts of technology, and as a result the complexes themselves are more or less modular. This arrangement allows for different areas to be sourced for different tasks that might change on a weekly basis – as a result, Beta’s manufacturing plants can essentially construct any type of regular mobile weapon or ship as long as the necessary raw materials are available, with very little downtime between type switch-overs. While this faculty hasn’t seen much use during the years since the end of the Space War, the National Guard’s periodic retention and overhead needs are easily met and with a minimum of wasted resources, a key factor given the relatively limited budget the organization operates under.

The PLANT itself is well fortified, with both endcaps bristling with defensive emplacements and heavy railgun batteries positioned around the central industrial blocks, allowing fire to be directed at almost any point in space. Defense of the interior of the PLANT is left up to its mobile suit garrison.
