Derisively referred to by American and European members as “Jap Point”, the Japan Area Pacific Point is the Alliance’s major base of operations in Japan, and the only spaceport on the western side of the Pacific. The oblong structure, with its dome-like hangar complex and launch facility at the eastern end, is built entirely on reclaimed land directly adjacent from Yokosuka, forming something of an artificial island with a narrow strait between it and the actual shore. A location deeper in Tokyo Bay would have been preferable, but at the time of the Alliance’s absorption of Japan there was still much work to be done in cleaning up the general Kanto region from the flooding caused by colony drops before the Interregnum, so the relatively intact region around Yokosuka was chosen instead.

The facility is dominated by an extremely large airport complex, easily capable of fielding many aircraft or aerial mobile suits at once. A dock yard for naval ships exists on the western side facing deeper into the bay, and the pleasant climate and popular cultural attractions make the JAP Point a highly sought-after place-of-call by Alliance Navy personnel. The gigantic dome at the eastern end of the base serves as both a massive hangar compound and a space launch complex, primarily intended to launch HLVs and booster-equipped vessels. A single truss-type ramp, more common at other Alliance bases, exists to fire shuttles and craft that can’t support a vertical launch.

The defensive emplacements roughly dot the perimeter of the compound, usually concealed in armored boxes that form a parapet-like appearance along the seawall; aside from being better protected, this also makes the base seem less threatening to the civilian city next door. As the de-facto reason why Japan hasn’t fallen to the Human Reform League, the base also serves as something of an informational center about the primarily Amero-European Alliance and why the people of Asia would benefit from being under its wing instead of the “iron-fisted tyranny of Communism” of the League.

Present: Attacked by two mobile armors at once, the Psyco Gundam and the Empruss, vast amounts of damage was dealt to the base, the catalyst the ESA needed to order a full withdrawal from the fort.

Once the fort itself was abandoned by the ESA, it was almost immediately retaken, and reinforced by the HRL, reinforcing their holdings in the Pacifica area.
