The Novaja Zemljasky Military District is a “district” of any kind on paper only, essentially consisting entirely of the base itself and little more. The subterranean installation is used as a control center for the testing of prototype weapons and machines, including weapons of mass destruction, on the uninhabited Nova Zembla.

The base is built almost entirely underground, with elevators allowing access to the surface for mobile suits. A small forest of antennas of various shape and size marks the site of the installation, but for the most part there’s little indication of the presence of the bunker complex. Aside from defensive purposes, this also serves a secondary role of insulating the base from environmental radiation – Nova Zembla has been used as a bomb testing range since before the Interregnum. Many parts of the island are dangerous to approach, even in a mobile suit with proper nuclear/chemical shielding. Paradoxically, this also makes the hardened base a very secure location. To wit, it is the site of a secret prison administered by the Committee for State Security (Komityet Gosudarstvyennoi Biezopasnosti – KGB) expressly for high-value political prisoners.

Defensive emplacements are hidden below the often-frozen surface on raising pedestal mounts in a generally concentric pattern, with extra numbers focused around the elevators.
