With much of Iran pulverized by a direct hit from a colony drop almost a hundred years prior, the formerly deep Beyhaq desert is now a coastal terrain feature in a greatly expanded Persian Gulf, and formed the southernmost terrestrial claims of the Human Reform League in the pre-Guild era. The installation along the coast adjacent to the city of Daiqah served as the forward post of the League’s mobile suit combat units along the Gulf, and is today a central operations point for Earth Union naval warfare in the region.
Port Razavi exists in the shadow of the massive continental trauma that occurred during the colony impact, with a towering cliff of glassed sand and rock reaching up to the natural desert “floor” nearly four hundred meters above. Due to this positioning, the base is extremely well protected from inland approach while being in a perfect location to service ships and conduct interdiction in the gulf. As a naturally calm port the sea did not require significant dredging or construction of large breakwaters, making it an attractive choice for the Union to preserve and enlarge as a regional command center. A large airfield bisects the main concourse, with mobile suit hangars parked on either side to permit rapid deployment to repel an enemy attack.
Originally, the main defense of the base was formed by several tall “battery blocks” positioned along the southern stretch of the installation – while the blocks remain, the weapons have been long removed in favor of less-vulnerable retractable turrets more typical to other Union installations. While most of the weapons, including the missile launchers, are positioned throughout the main base concourse, a number are hidden at the top of the cliff to enable firing out to sea as well as to attack enemy forces moving in from the desert long before the base itself is exposed.
