Originally established by the Preventers during the Corporate Wars roughly eighty years prior, the military base outside Berlin changed hands numerous times during the Interregnum before it was eventually brought under the control of the Earth Sphere Alliance. Inherited by the Earth Union, the base is the central command facility for the European continent. The massive installation is located south of Berlin on the former grounds of the Schönefeld airport, stretching over an area of quite a few square miles of essentially flat sprawl.

As it predates the Alliance (and Union) by many years, the base is unlike any other under the control of that government. A sloped earthen berm leading up to a solid anti-mobile suit wall forms the outer perimeter of the base, from which a number of beam cannon positions are mounted to provide for ranging fire towards approaching enemies, although they may also be directed to fire into the interior as well. Local defense is primarily attributed to the missile batteries that dot the concourse at regular intervals. A number of relatively archaic weapon systems were removed by Union forces, with long-range firepower provided by a handful of massive GN mega cannons positioned near the center of the installation. Berlin once hosted a large ramp-type space port, but the structures have been cleared away in favor of a more modern mass driver complex and a number of vertical mooring masts for Baikal-class cruisers that have landed from orbit. Mobile suit hangars built as partially subterranean blockhouses are spread throughout the base to permit rapid deployment of garrisoned forces to face a potential threat, as well as to quickly top off a GN drive without requiring the mobile suit to leave a combat posture.
