Vulkanus is the code-name of an Alliance top-secret program to produce mobile dolls far and away from the conflicts on Earth. Construction of the facility began around UC 215, using a depleted natural resource satellite to house the complex. The compound went online in July of UC 220, with development carried out totally in secret. Perhaps in an ironic twist of fate, Vulkanus had been online for less than a week before the Alliance’s tactical system, the Skyline Network, was infected by a virus introduced by the Guild which caused its mobile dolls to go berserk and begin identifying virtually everything as a hostile threat. The factory satellite immediately ceased communications with Alliance headquarters in Alaska – by the time hostilities had begun dying down next year the station was nowhere to be found. Recently, an object roughly matching Vulkanus’ overall size and gravitational pull was spotted by a Jupiter Development Group exploratory unit in orbit around Ganymede, but transmissions from the vessel were interrupted shortly thereafter.

According to design specifications, Vulkanus is intended to be a totally self-sufficient manufacturing base for mobile doll production, with the ability to produce the Alliance’s most capable mobile weapons from raw materials alone, and well furnished with defenses to repel attacks should its position be discovered by the enemy. What, if any, of the installation’s faculties remain is unknown, as is the reason for its current position.
