The Dalnevostochny Military District controls the bulk of the miserably cold Russian Far East, situated roughly between the Arctic coastline and that of the Sea of Okhotsk. The base is built in an artificial basin roughly the shape of an irregular convex polygon, with the structures and main operations center at the bottom of the steep-walled concrete and metal depression.

Aside from its main protective value against snowstorms and wind damage, the base’s position at the bottom of the artificial basin also makes it quite difficult to attack directly. Access to the basin floor is granted by a series of monstrous open-air elevators at regular intervals, and a gently-sloping rampart leading up to the edge of the basin houses lines of defensive emplacements that peek out of their positions to blast enemies approaching from the vast stretches of flat and usually snow-covered land in all directions. The rampart perimeter is tall enough to offer a mobile suit a good degree of cover from incoming fire, and space is sufficient between the back of the rampart and the edge of the basin to allow travel around the circumference. The other advantage of this layout is that the emplacements can also rotate around to fire down into the basin itself in case of a perimeter breach.

Aside from a center of military operations, the base is also the site of a major mobile suit production facility. Though not nearly on the same scale as the Kazakhysky Military District, the Dalnevostochny compound produces a sizable number of the Tierens seen at front-line League bases. Additionally, due to its bleak and foreboding position, with miles on miles of featureless arctic wasteland in all directions, a high-security prison complex housing many thousands of inmates also exists at the compound. The labor-intensive Tieren factories make excellent use of the plethora of “volunteer” prisoners eager to serve the interests of the League.
