Situated in picturesque Switzerland and framed by the Alps to the southeast, Bern is the Earth Union’s political headquarters. Bearing much in the way of old-world beauty that survived the Interregnum and intervening decades of chaos intact, the city still looks much as it did in previous centuries, with perpetually green forests, steep mountains and snow-covered peaks. Perhaps due to its picture-perfect appearance and traditional political history dating back centuries, just as much as its highly defensible location, the Earth Sphere Alliance chose to situate their civil seat of authority there, and the governmental center has further prospered under the Union to boot.

The palatial headquarters, formerly the Earth Alliance Parliament and now the Earth Union Assembly, is a massive baroque building of marble and bright-colored wood, with high-arched roofs, architectural flourishes and a fantastically decorated interior, with artwork, statuary and a physical museum all dedicated to common themes of the achievements of mankind throughout the history of Earth, ranging from Alexander the Great to Saladin to Queen Victoria – keen observers will also note an influx of more “eastern” works from the former Human Reform League, including Peter the Great, Genghis Khan, and Joseph Stalin. The highlights of human exploits are often contrasted with the various cultures and governments that went to war with one another, offering justifications for each participant while simultaneously acting as a “historical lesson” as to the futility of Earth delving into further conflict with itself. The assembly chambers themselves are equally ornate, with staggered rows of seating made of artfully flourished wood and gem-encrusted chandeliers dangling from elaborately decorated ceilings. The exterior grounds feature clashing dualities of beautiful gardens and outdoor statues while static displays of mobile suits tower above in graceful positions – Federation Daughtresses, Alliance Aries, and League Tierens grace the landscape in addition to mock-ups of GN-Xs to show the evolution of mobile suits used by the Earth powers over the last century.

During the Alliance tenure, Bern also played host to an underground military complex tasked with defense of the city and the Parliament building. After the brief occupation by the Guild, as well as the reorganization of installations committed during the foundation of the Earth Union, it is unknown how many, if any, of these installations remain.
