With the Persian Gulf precipitously widened by the results of colony drops that toppled the Old Earth Federation, the landscape of the Middle East was altered significantly as well. Fortuitously, most of its natural resources escaped destruction, and remain sought after by both the Human Reform League and Atlantic Federation. The Persiyasky Military District, headquartered in Isfahan, forms the eastern line of the Human Reform League’s furthest expansion.
The formerly inland Isfahan is now relatively close to the new edge of the Persian Gulf, and while not a port city in and of itself, the location is now cooled somewhat by breezes coming off the water. More importantly, it allows the military faculties there to attack targets in the Gulf. The city has been more or less taken over by the League’s tactical needs, with roads widened to allow mobile suits to travel through them and certain buildings converted into reinforced blockhouses to house defensive emplacements. The famous Shah Mosque, now called the “Palace of Culture and Sciences” (the Human Reform League is militantly atheist), forms something of a civil headquarters, though the military command infrastructure is housed in a bunker beneath the mosque’s existing basement. The potent GN Beam Cannons are positioned on tall pedestal mounts within the city center, providing 360 degree views of the surrounding area, while a tall perimeter wall bristles with machine guns and other emplacements.
As with other League bases, there are only a few safe routes out of the militarized area along large roadways, otherwise the surrounding terrain is quite dangerous to traverse due to heavy mining.
