Situated in picturesque Switzerland and framed by the Alps to the southeast, Bern is the Earth Sphere Alliance’s political headquarters. Bearing much in the way of old-world beauty that survived the Interregnum and intervening decades of chaos intact, the city still looks much as it did in previous centuries, with perpetually green forests, steep mountains and snow-covered peaks. Perhaps due to its picture-perfect appearance and traditional political history dating back centuries, just as much as its highly defensible location, the Alliance chose to situate their civil seat of authority here.

The palatial headquarters, the Earth Alliance Parliament, is a massive baroque building of marble and bright-colored wood, with high-arched roofs, architectural flourishes and a fantastically decorated interior, with artwork, statuary and a physical museum all dedicated to common themes of the achievements of mankind throughout the history of Earth, ranging from Alexander the Great to Saladin to Queen Victoria. The parliamentary chambers themselves are equally ornate, with staggered rows of seating made of artfully decorated wood and gem-encrusted chandeliers dangling from elaborately decorated ceilings. The exterior grounds feature clashing dualities of beautiful gardens and outdoor statues while static displays of Aries mobile suits tower above in graceful positions.

Aside from a smallish airfield nearby, Bern appears almost totally civilian in nature with very little in the way of military affects, but this is entirely facade. Beneath the manicured Parliament grounds and much of the city itself is an extensive military complex where no expense was spared to provide state-of-the-art protection with zero observability. A veritable fortress of defensive emplacements can spring out from below the surface, and a contingent of elite mobile suits as well as a number of mobile dolls are stationed in the subterranean base, readily prepared to swarm any kind of incursion with massive firepower.

In spite of this thorough preparation, the base’s main defense is its apparent lack of significance in the first place, as well as its presence in a densely populated civilian center.
