Literally occupying the entire island, the Atlantic Federation’s Fogo base is a marvel of Old Earth Federation engineering repurposed to fit modern needs. The vast majority of the installation is built into the sides and interior of the mountain, with only camouflaged hangar access passages poking out at various locations, and the many defense turrets are disguised as rock formations – for all intents and purposes, the island appears essentially untouched until closer inspection reveals that it is nearly as man-made in reality as it appears natural at distance.
The pinnacle of the base’s features is the massive geothermal power station that feeds off of heat and pressure directly from the volcano, providing the base with an incredible amount of essentially unlimited energy. As a result, virtually all of the base’s defenses are beam-based, and even the defensive mobile suits are provided with cable-powered beam rifles for static warfare. Likewise, the constant leeching of heat and pressure prevents the volcano from erupting, making it quite stable and safe to build upon. The caldera, formerly active in spewing out lava and other pyroclastic material, was converted by the Old Earth Federation into a hardened missile complex for nuclear weapons, which the Atlantic Federation discovered intact over a century later; the warheads had long expired, but they have been replaced by newer models and are just as deadly as ever.
Present: Assaulted twice by ESA pilots, once by the Epyon, and again by the Rafflesia and Geymark, Fogo has managed to stave off capture or destruction by the enemy mobile suits so far.
Losing nearly half of their mobile suits, and a sizable portion of their standard defenses, the base has still managed to weather the attacks. A side effect of the repeated attacks has been that Fogo’s surviving mobile suit teams have become much more proficient pilots, all of them hardened veterans now.
After multiple attacks, the Atlantic Federation ultimately decided to reinforce Fogo, adding a powerful anti-beam field, as well as a contingent of mobile suits. Protecting the generator of the anti-beam field is one of the Atlantic Federation’s new prototypes: Gable. Boasting its own anti-beam field, the Gable is a heavy unit capable of absorbing ridiculous amounts of firepower with its massive thick armor. It’s only true flaw is that it lacks weapons, but its pilot has managed to make do without them, earning himself a name.
