The Carpathsky Military District forms the Human Reform League’s furthest territorial claims in Southeast Europe, forming a long perimeter along the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains that directly opposes the Earth Sphere Alliance’s defensive line in Slovenia and effectively seals off land approaches into southern Asia.
With a commanding position along the high grounds, the Carpathsky base features a significantly greater proportion of long-range artillery weapons to best exploit their vantage point. Though nominally under the League’s control, civilians in the low-lying areas to the west of the mountains live in perpetual fear that an Alliance attack might provoke a League response, e.g. a hailstorm of shells and missiles arbitrarily blasting the constituent atoms apart of everything within a 10-mile radius of anything that looks like a mobile suit. The batteries are constructed in typical League style of heavily reinforced concrete bunkers and blockhouses with little in the way of camouflage and much in the way of thickness. Trenches snake along between the giant fixtures for Tierens to safely fire behind.
Command and control of the Carpathshy Military District is overseen from the enormous Palace of the Parliament on the eastern side of the hills in Bucharest, which usually retains a few mobile suits at all times as a precaution against anything slipping through the sensor coverage before the main forces can be rallied. Should the district be attacked from behind (e.g. the east), secondary command posts can take over and direct fire from the mountains down onto the flat lands (and the city itself if need be).
