The Guild’s largest base in the southern part of the US, the base is located mostly in, and occasionally under, the city of Las Vegas. Though once a thriving city, the Interregenum combined with the colony drops that obliterated much of California saw the city abandoned, and by the time the Guild arrived, was not much more than a shell of its former self, allowing the city to be modified for military use with very little, if any, fuss from the small number of people still living there. Despite the colony drops, the base is still too far from the new coastline to be vulnerable to a seaborne assault, and the flat terrain makes spotting incoming enemies easy to the gunners at the base. Tunnels have been dug under the streets to not only allow for munitions and mobile suits to be moved about away from the public eye, but to keep personnel cool during the summers in the region. Sadly, personnel stationed there found the vaults in the old casinos had been looted long before their arrival.
The base itself is largely decentralized with the Las Vegas Strip housing the command center inside of the Luxor and the main sensor array beneath the old Bellagio casino and hotel. A sloping wall surrounds the city, and it mounts many of the heavier weapon emplacements, with the antiaircraft weapons being scattered throughout the urban areas, often on top of buildings. Hangars are also largely spread out, though there are usually two or three within a relatively short distance of another. The former McCarran International Airport has been repurposed into an airfield for the base’s arial mobile suits, as well as to ferry supplies sent down from Geryon to the Guild’s headquarters in Sumatra. A dense anti-mobile suit minefield extends out into the desert to slow down attacking enemies. Four heavy missile launchers and two heavy beam cannons are mounted on the walls and are paired with sensors to better target incoming enemies from long range and often serve as the facility’s first line of defense. The base also serves as a bit of a public relations stunt for the Guild, as the citizens are well-taken care of, and the new housing for them is well-protected from attack. The famous welcome sign still exists and hangs over one of the enterances on the wall. Unlike most resource gathering operations, the base at Las Vegas makes its money for the Guild much in the same way the city did in its prime – through gambling, meaning that the shipments to Helios consist almost entirely of cash.
