The Shuangchengzi base is a relatively atypical installation brought into use by the Human Reform League around UC 216, and is situated at the northern reaches of the Gansu Province in the sprawling Gobi Desert. Originally devised as a large-scale mobile suit support base, the unusual arrangement of the base’s construction is designed primarily to make it resistant to the often brutal sandstorms that scour the desert.

Shuangchengzi can best be described as “compartmentalized”, with a main structure in a roughly conical shape that houses the mobile suit hangars, a central repair bay, and the main defense coordination center. Support buildings and the main power plant are positioned in adjacent structures that are linked via aerial bridges, and there’s a variety of dishes and sensor aerials spread throughout the immediate area. While designed to withstand storms that can strip armor off a Tieren, the masts and other scanners still have to be replaced with considerable frequency. An airfield at the southern end of the base is preserved by an anti-static ceramic laminate that helps repel stray particulates, which prevents it from being buried or sanded down to rubble. In terms of defenses, the base is fairly irregular once again – a variety of beam cannons are installed in the exterior of the main building behind slide-out panels, allowing the turrets to emerge from within the fort to attack aerial or land-based attackers. Missile batteries are tucked into the “roof” of the structure, while individual panels are placed in the rocky outcroppings nearby via excavation and the addition of dummy terrain features.
