Technical and History: Built in a fashion similar to the older Puerto Morelos Island, Gander Island is an off-shore platform fitted with a giant X-band radar, responsible for early warning of approaching enemies to the East coast of Canada and parts of the United States, as well as linking ground-based communications with North America and Europe.

The platform is situated in the frigid waters off the coast of Newfoundland, and cannot be attacked from land. As a result its defenses are more directly geared towards fighting off attackers from the air or sea. Because of the station’s relative lack of durability against heavy weapons, it is literally bristling with defensive emplacements to quickly bring an end to any would-be attacks, and the powerful over-the-horizon radar makes predicting the approach vectors of incoming enemies virtual child’s play.

Present: After an attack by an unknown mobile suit, Alliance strategists have determined a weakness in their radar platforms in that they cannot detect particle-driven mobile suits, such as the Human Reform League’s Ahead. Its replacement sensor, while still possessing the features of the original X-band system, is now prototyping a method to detect units powered by GN Drives, utilizing a composite scanner with both acoustic and atmospheric disturbance monitors as well as a gridded transmit-only radio array that allows the base to isolate GN particle emissions in a 3D environment. Following successful evaluation of the new system, it will be added to all existing Alliance radar platforms.

While the system was indeed successfully evaluated, that did not stop the base from taking major damage in the recent strike from various independent operators. It will require major repairs before it is even safe to replace the defenses.

Abandoned by Kale and folks, it was retaken by the Wing Zero, and ultimately returned back to the Earth Sphere Alliance’s posession. What happens to it next remains to be seen.
