Formerly known as the Japan Area Pacific Point, the naval base at Yokosuka has undergone a significant re-alignment since the end of the Guild War and the formation of the Earth Union. While still a major military operations center, as well as the Earth Union’s only defense base in Japan, the significance of the facility has shrunken somewhat since the construction of the enormous cosmoport in Singapore.

Situated just off the shore from the city of Yokosuka, the base is built entirely on reclaimed land with a long rectangular shape, sporting a very large airport complex that assumes most of the base’s total surface area. Dock facilities and a large shipping terminal occupy the eastern (sea-facing) end of the installation, while the former spaceport area at the western end has been reconfigured as a gigantic “aerodrome” compound for storage of aircraft, mobile suits, and all matters of other cargo and even civilian goods – thanks to a security arrangement with the provincial officials, commercial flights and freight traffic are allowed to make use of the extensive airport facilities. The important military faculties have more or less “gone underground”, with mobile suit hangars positioned below the airstrips and launch shafts allowing direct access to the surface, while defensive weapon emplacements are littered around the perimeter in retractable mounts in a similar style to most other Union installations.

As a former combat site between the Earth Sphere Alliance and Human Reform League, a museum of “global peace and cooperation” exists near the aerodrome – the treaty that officially began the Earth Union was signed at that exact location, making it something of a national landmark.
