Built near and named after the city (and island) of Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania, the base was built to keep Cape Town safe by protecting it with long range missile fire and was built to the task. The facilty itself is located on the shore and built in a circular shape with a reinforced wall surrounding it with the only notable break in the wall facing the sea, with the Heavy Missile Launchers firing through openings on the walls facing in all directions. The multiple missile launchers the facility boasts are fed from high-capacity magazines buried deep beneath the base, allowing it to fire for extended periods of time. The massive heavy cannons are actually mounted outside of the walls with four facing inland and the other four facing the sea. Antiaircraft weapons are arranged to have every possible attack vector covered, as are the lesser antiground defenses, with many being mounted on the walls or on elevated positions within the walls themselves. The base is often seen launching missions to protect the island from the various pirates and raiders that still exist in the region and as such is quite popular with the local population.
The base’s command center is set into the ground and the bulk of the activity in the base happens below ground aside from the movement of supplies and mobile suits, which is accomplished via a system of tunnels and reinforced trenches. The airfield is more often used to launch airborne mobile suits than recieve cargo, but it is not an uncommon sight. Security is understandibly tight, and the mines are scaled to the size of the average mobile suit’s torso, and in a nasty surprise, many of the land-based ones will pop up into the air once activated before exploding. The minefields are altered on a monthly basis to keep security tight, and mobile suit patrols are frequent to ensure that only those with proper authorization make it close.
