The Southern Sector Command is a sprawling military complex nestled just west of the heart of Santiago, acting as both a garrison force to protect the capital of Los Libertadores as well as to make a physical show of force to remind the city and region’s citizens of whom they owe their freedoms to. While dating back to the Atlantic Federation in terms of original construction, much of the base has been renovated or otherwise upgraded with newer technology and defenses over time.

The facility begins with extreme abruptness, as the city abuts the installation in a very physical sense. The perimeter wall simply forms the opposite side of a city street on all four sides, with security checkpoints every so often to allow entry or exit at ground level. Unlike many similar military bases in Council territories, the Southern Sector Command’s defensive emplacements are positioned further inside the base and clustered around large and heavily reinforced towers that allow them to fire up and over the perimeter wall as well as the nearby city structures – some analysts have questioned whether or not this design was influenced by a South African Coalition installation in Namibia, but the resemblance is primarily aesthetic in nature. The Chilean base’s towers are smaller in overall size though much more numerous, and are likewise fixed in place, making a powerful visual statement as they can be seen from many points throughout the city.

Given Los Libertadores‘ preference for armored modules over mobile suits, the base has been oriented to better support units of that type. Hangars are built directly below the runways of the airfield, with elevators to bring the embarked units to the surface in a style almost reminiscent of an aircraft carrier. In this fashion, armored modules can be “wheeled out” with their Tesla drives already spinning, making for a highly effective and very rapid deployment.
