Namibia was spared much of the battles that befell South Africa, and its capital city of Windhoek rose as a burgeoning political power after the fall of the Atlantic Federation, the retreat of ZAFT, and the fragmentation of the Guild. Originally fancying itself as a “polite armed republic” and armed primarily with ex-ZAFT equipment, Namibia ended up siding with the South African Coalition during the period of relative peace after the dissolution of the Guild so as to better protect itself against renegades to the north.

The military base attached to the city is relatively inauspicious at first glance, with a large airfield and hardened mobile suit hangars topped with machine gun emplacements. The installation buttresses and is partially encircled by the southern portion of the city – municipal aircraft share the base’s airfield with its military forces as a holdover from when the city’s armed forces held greater power over its people. However, the defensive plan is anything but pedestrian: in addition to the new Tesla Leicht-produced mobile suits, there are a half dozen monstrous “defense blocks” positioned around the base and in the city proper, each one topped with a giant beam cannon and bristling with secondary and tertiary devices for mid- and close-range defense. While not hidden per se, the defense blocks are ordinarily stored mostly below ground level within the base perimeter and under parks inside the city, and can be raised up in anticipation of enemy attack. In addition to offering a commanding elevated position, the defense blocks can also safely fire their weapons over the tops of buildings without fear of damaging the city itself, a boon when more and more armed forces are employing flight-capable mobile suits. Most of the city’s main arteries are intentionally sized to allow mobile suits to transit through the built-up areas quickly for civil defense functions.
