Essentially a gigantic off-shore platform fitted with a very large X-band radar, the so-called Puerto Morelos Island is the Alliance’s early warning system for guarding against incursion into the Gulf of Mexico from the Atlantic Ocean. It is heavily defended with a large battery of close-in weapons, and experienced amphibious mobile suit teams are deployed to provide security against possible enemy units sneaking aboard and damaging the vital communications link, as the facility also serves as a hub for data and other telecommunications material throughout the Alliance territory in North and Central America.

Due to its deep-water location in the Gulf, it is impossible to approach via land, and as a result is chiefly designed to defend against air and sea-based attacks. Atlantic Federation observers have derisively referred to it as an “oil rig with a tumor” in reference to the giant spherical radar dome sticking out of the top of the facility.
