Al-Aqqah is a wholly unique base among Earth Union installations, and exists essentially for the sole purpose of controlling the entrance to the Persian Gulf. The base is primarily built below ground in the mountainous region just a bit inland from Al-Badiya on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, and forms a network of subterranean hangar bays and logistical bunkers linked together by large tunnels and access shafts that permit mobile suits to move about between them without going up to the surface.

Compared to other Union installations, Al-Aqqah is quite small in terms of overall size, with defenses consisting primarily of its own mobile suits and a number of fixed emplacements in camouflaged positions on the mountains. Extensive tunnel works connect the different hangar complexes together to allow deployment from a number of positions, but the exact size of the installation itself is unknown due to how little of it can actually be observed from a safe distance.
