Situated in the high desert of Nevada, the New Edwards base is named after a famed Old Earth Federation installation in California that was wiped out, along with much of the southern California coast, during three catastrophic colony drops. Much as its predecessor did, New Edwards provides the Alliance with air dominance capability over much of the southwest United States, and is also the site of the Alliance’s main launch facility in North America.

New Edwards is dominated by a gigantic airfield complex with no less than six full-length runways arrayed in a triangular pattern. The entire base occupies a sprawling salt flat that stretches on for miles and miles in each direction, eventually giving way to rocky desert and the still-standing Sierra Nevada mountains in the west (part of which form California’s new southern coastline). The hardened hangar complexes, which are partially underground, form an inner defensive line with line of sight over the runways, and each sprouts an antiaircraft laser emplacement. The other defensive positions are rung around the base’s perimeter in atypical fashion for Alliance facilities, disguised as rocks and blocks of naturally-accumulating salt.

The New Edwards Spaceport dominates areas of the base that are not already occupied by the airfields, with multiple truss-type launch towers reaching skyward capable of firing even the largest Alliance Space Force vessels into orbit. The sight of Combat Command Cruisers streaking in from space and touching down on the nearby airfields are quite common, with ballute-equipped Leo Carriers fitted with landing kits coming to rest on the salt flats nearby.
