The second iteration of the Rafflesia, the Rafflesia Mira takes its name from the parasitic flower. While not much has changed in the Rafflesia’s exterior, what is under the hood so to speak, is where the action is at.
Most significantly of all the improvements to the Rafflesia is the addition of a new cockpit. Moved into the interior of the mobile armor itself, where the canopy cockpit was formerly located is now just another armored surface.
Also a Minovsky Craft System has been added, allowing the red flower of death to function in atmosphere. While it isn’t as maneuverable under the influence of gravity as it is in space, it is far from a slouch.
In terms of armament the Rafflesia Mira has less tentacles in terms of chainsaws, but the removed chainsaws have been replaced by an arguably better weapon: tentacle beam cannons! Not only does the Rafflesia now have twenty-five beam cannons that can fire in practically direction, but at the end of each cannon is a claw, strong enough to hold a mobile suit in place for the chainsaws, or simply grab on and fire the cannons.
The mega beam cannon mounted in each of the Rafflesia’s petal binders has been upgraded to mega particle launchers, which are able to function similarly to VSBRs in that they can alter the beams from very powerful small beams that can punch through beam shields, to regular beam shots, to large area diffuse beam shots. The tentacle beam cannons are regular cannons, not VSBR-like.
In addition to the new tentacle cannons, each of the Rafflesia’s five petal binders can be deployed as gigantic bits, able to function independently. When deployed they don’t benefit from the protection of the anti-beam barrier, but they make for a way to escape from a sticky situation, or simply attack an opponent from multiple angles. Unfortunately they are only able to be used as bits in space, bound to the Rafflesia while in atmosphere.
