Usually known simply as “Díaz”, this installation is the center of Alliance power in Central America. The Interregnum-era states in that area formed something of a regional capital at the site of Mexico City, renaming it after historical Mexican nationalist Porfirio Díaz, and the name stuck after it was absorbed by the expanding Earth Sphere Alliance.
The Díaz fortress shows much in the way of “indigenous” architecture, differing precipitously from other Alliance bases elsewhere. The compound runs straight into the city itself, with the perimeter anti-mobile suit wall forming one side of a major thoroughfare through the city center. In spite of its location in a major population center, the base is well hardened to survive attacks with heavy weapons, and its hangars and warehouses more closely resemble blockhouses than storage buildings.
At first, the base seems mysteriously devoid of any kind of defensive emplacements, but this is intentionally misleading. All manners of air defenses and artillery are mounted on 360 degree-rotation pedestals that emerge from innocuous-looking panels throughout the facility; these can also rise significantly into the air, up to twice the height of a standard mobile suit, enabling them to fire above base assets and friendly units to provide a commanding position without making enormous targets of themselves like a fixed mount would.
The fortress was not provided with facilities for large aircraft initially; instead, a large tunnel was constructed below ground to provide direct access to the existing civil airport about half a mile away, with elevators servicing the high-security military area.
