Occupants:
The ESA’s primary European base, Berlin, at one point, was the headquarters of the Preventers during the Corporate War era. The Preventers were stretched beyond all belief by the cataclysmic events of the war with the Devil Gundam, and eventually simply fell apart. The base was occupied by many transients during the Interregenum, but in recent years, the ESA marched into the base, drove out the occupants, and cleaned it up, turning it into their regional headquarters.
As might be expected from it’s importance, Berlin Base is heavily fortified. A meters-thick earthen berm with fighting positions for mobile suitshas been raised around the entire base, with a trench at the bottom, and a minefield beyond that. The hangars are heavily reinforced against bombardment and air attack– each of the square structures is actually set into the ground, with a shallow sloping roof of reinforced concrete and recessed entryways on all four sides with ramps leading outwards. Furthermore, each one sports an antiaircraft position on top.
In addition to the usual close-in defenses, the base also features a few ballistic missile launchers, used primarily to bombard positions deep into HRL territory, but also used, on occasion, to deploy cluster munitions on close-in attackers. Final protection is provided by a massive anti-aircract implosion cannon, mounted on a tower in the center of the base.
Further defenses are provided by a garrison of both normal mobile suits and ten Virgo mobile dolls. The base commander, Major Hetzer, and his three wingmen, have non-standard mobile suits: Major Hetzer has a Tallgeese, a prototype from early Leo development, and his wingmen all have Aries modified to carry beam sabers.
