Oh hi!
I was pretty bored today, so I decided to try to put together a plan for a hypothetical attack on Malta within 1-2 weeks of the RPG beginning (because I like aggression!)
First off, let's start by listing everyone currently on Earth, Zeon and Federation (along with current locations).
Zeon – Gouf HMT (California Base – North America), Efreet (California Base – North America), Scarth / Marines (Europe), Gouf (East Asia), Dom (East Asia), Zaku II S (East Asia), Zaku II K (East Asia), Hidolfr (California Base – North America), Dan / Panzergrenadiers (Europe), Apsalas (Lhasa – East Asia), Z'gok (Europe).
Total – 11

By the way, here are the breakdowns for each zone that is currently active:

I am not under the impression that these numbers will remain the same by the time we actually manage to get anything like this going, but we'll just leave it at that for now.
Back to Malta. As you know, it is in Europe (contested territory), so there are no patrols (outside of PC skirmishing) that we have to worry about.
With that in mind, here is my very early, rough, and fantastical plan for an attack on Malta.
Necessary units (the bare minimum with which I believe this attack can succeed):
NPC: Gaw (1375 RP), 2x Fighter Support (10x Dopp – 200 RP), 2x Zaku Cannon (166 RP), Luggun (55 RP), 2x Dodai (56 RP), 5x Dopp (110 RP), Jukon (770 RP), 2x Acguy (330 RP) = 2571 RP.
PC: Dom, Gouf, Zaku II S, Zaku II K, Apsalas, Panzergrenadiers
Requested additional units (more units can only make this go smoother, after all):
NPC: Another Gaw (1375 VP), a Newtype captain for at least one Gaw (400 VP), 6x Magella Attack Tank (132 RP) = 2175 RP.
PC: Anyone and everyone who can make it. ^.^
The actual attack can consist of 2-3 phases:
Phase 1) The Gaw, escorted by its own complement of planes as well as the planes purchased through the Fighter Support option (and the Apsalas), approaches Malta from the northwest. It will drop all six units aboard (Zaku II S, Zaku II K, Dom, Gouf, and 2x Zaku Cannons) into the mountains just south of Mdina to the west of the Federation installation (note: if 6 Magella Attack Tanks are to be included, they will parachute into Mdina). From there, the Zaku II K and the Zaku Cannons will begin bombardment of the base, specifically targeting the Radar / Communications tower and any anti-air emplacements. The three remaining mobile suits (Zaku II S, Dom, and Gouf) are to advance towards the installation (four Magella Attack Tanks will accompany them, while the remaining two will hold position in Mdina to act as a rearguard for the advance). At this point, the Gaw will commence strafing runs on the base, guarded by the fighters and Apsalas, and focusing fire with airborne units to destroy the Radar / Communications tower and the two Dish type flying units.
Phase 2) The Panzergrenadiers, two NPC Acguys, and Jukon will use the duration of Phase 1 to approach Malta from the east, just outside of whichever harbour (Marsamxett or Grand) possesses the fewest vessels within it. When it is time, (preferably if the Radar station and two Dishes are destroyed), the two Acguys and Jukon will take advantage of the chaos and confusion to strike, doing as much damage as possible to any defenses still stationed (battleships, mobile suits) or operational (fixed emplacements). Meanwhile, the artillery unit stationed in the mountains will switch targets to exclusively support the advancing trio of Zaku II S, Dom, and Gouf. However, this will be yet another diversionary tactic, as the true objective (and really, all movements up to now) is to cover for the Panzergrenadiers as they infiltrate the base. Their mission will be to secure the HQ of Malta, and with it, victory!
Optional Phase 3) Depending on support, it is at this point I would like to suggest the arrival of another Gaw and perhaps a squad of mobile suits dropping onto the base itself, to rout any holdout defenders.
Anyway, there it is. I realize this plan doesn't really assume any PC Federation forces defending, which would be awesome (but next to imposslbe). However, being that the game hasn't even started yet, it's pretty hard to plan for that without any indication of the overlying strategy the enemy will be implementing. I feel like this should be able to work with some adjustment even up to 4-5 PC defenders easily (depending on who they are), especially if even 2-3 more people on our side can show up and contribute.
PS – I have a superactive imagination and little attention span, so I got distracted several times while I was writing this. Subsequently, there are probably several logical gaps and mistakes, but bear with me!
PS2 – The total mission cost is 2571 RP for necessary supplies, 2175 RP for secondary supplies, bringing the total up to a whopping 4746 RP before any cuts are made. Draco tells me that counting everyone on Earth, our combined current RP is 3433, and our combined total income is 1350 RP. I realize that this operation (at the current budget) would be a -significant- investment of everyone's funds, and with that in mind I would love to hear some ideas for changes to the plan or involved forces. Basically I'm just eager to do this within 1-2 weeks of the RPG opening, because I think it would send a pretty serious message to the Federation about our ability to organize a solid, effective offensive against a reputable installation.
I'm eager to hear what everyone thinks.
